Social & Environmental Sustainability
Protection of the environment is one of FetterCMD’s core values and principles. We also consider it to be good business. For these reasons, FetterCMD is committed to implementing and maintaining socially and environmentally sustainable business practices. Through partnerships locally and nationally, FetterCMD has been able to make changes to positively impact the environment, the community, and the financial stability of the company.

Local Partnerships
Since establishing a corporate Social and Environmental Sustainability program, FetterCMD has partnered with the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center (KPPC) to receive energy assessments and practical recommendations for energy-saving projects. FetterCMD has been progressively implementing the recommendations, including installation of motion sensor lighting controls in all common areas, adding capacitors to improve power factors, and installing new motors and variable speed drives for air handlers. The company is currently pursuing KPPC’s additional recommended efforts to manage energy demand.

Locally, FetterCMD has also partnered with the City of Louisville for the first annual Kilowatt Crackdown. Along with more than 100 other local participants, FetterCMD made a commitment to strive to increase energy efficiency in accordance with the EPA’s guidelines and recommendations for energy management. At the awards ceremony this spring, FetterCMD’s Louisville facility took the top honor as winner of the Kilowatt Cup – an award recognizing excellence in energy management by making low- and no-cost changes to reduce energy usage.

National Partnerships
By partnering with the Environmental Protection Agency, FetterCMD has been able to further increase sustainability efforts by gaining access to national resources, including technical experts, instructions, templates, and forms. These tools have allowed the company to take inventory, identify our primary emission sources, and begin measuring the impact of changes. FetterCMD has been focused on being green by saving green instead of spending green. In 2010, the company was named as both an EPA ENERGY STAR and Waste Wise Partner of the Year.

Since the program inception, FetterCMD has reduced energy usage by 33% and saved 4,776,000 pounds of CO2. This is equivalent to:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions from 414 passenger cars for one year
  • CO2 emissions from the energy use of 193 homes for one year
  • CO2 emissions from 243,733 gallons of gas consumed

In addition to environmental responsibility, FetterCMD recognizes and addresses the need for social corporate responsibility. Our Social and Environmental Sustainability team has participated in numerous events in the last few years. Projects include:

  • Creating a Wildlife Habitat on our facility grounds
  • Habitat for Humanity local community construction projects
  • Project Warm
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
  • Brightside Community Cleanup
  • ISA Recycling's Cans for Kids
